I've spent more than twenty-five years working in other people's gardens. For most of that time, I thought my job was straightforward: keep things growing, keep things tidy, keep people happy with what they looked out on.
Somewhere along the way, the questions became more interesting than the answers. Not "what should I plant here," but what a garden is actually for — and why we keep making them, generation after generation, even knowing we won't be the ones to see them finished.
That thinking is what fills the Garden Notebook now. It's what I talk about on Five Minutes in the Garden. And it's what became my first book.
The Garden Goes On
Much of what I write about now — how gardens change, how we change alongside them — first took proper shape in my book, The Garden Goes On. It's not a how-to. It's an attempt to put into words the thing I kept noticing but couldn't quite say out loud for twenty years: that a garden is never really finished, and maybe that's the whole point of it.
Most weeks, you'll find me somewhere in a garden, in the Facebook group, or working through the next thing I can't quite stop thinking about.
